Join us for 4 days of outdoor exploration and scientific discovery as you train to be a fur trader like David Thompson!

About

A bilingual summer day camp is offered to kids during the months of July and August at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site.

Now in our fifth year, our summer day camp offered for ages 7-11, grows with positive feedback from parents and participants.  Kids should come dressed for the weather with good shoes, as they hike the trails, play in the fort, learn about First Nations cultures, and take part in conservation efforts around the site.

Camp programs are offered Tuesday through Friday from 9am-4pm. A nutritious snack is provided daily.

Billingual

In 2016, our camps in English are offered July 5-8, July 26-29 and August 2-5.

Our camps in French are offered July 12-15 and August 16-19.  To offer an French Immersion camp we're happy to work in partnership with the local Canadian Parents for French chapter.

Coureurs des Bois

Translated to "runners of the woods", a coureur des bois fur trader was a French-Canadian that worked independently in the fur trade.  They were skilled woodsman that journeyed inland by canoe to hunt for furs to trade.

About

August 9-12, 2016. Coureurs des Bois is an adventure camp for teens ages 11-14.  Participants are involved in learning survival and fur trade skills, as if they had signed up to work for one of the fur trade companies.  Activities may include canoeing, biking, and hiking along the great North Sasatchewan River. This camp also has a sleepover component and some hands-on fur trader recruitment!  Campers learn how to set up tents, cook meals, and complete daily tasks just as the voyageurs would have done to survive the journey back to Montréal.  Join us at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site for another exciting camp of Coureurs des Bois!

Junior Explorers

About

In 2015, our Junior Camp offered a half day program for ages 4-6.  Kids spent the mornings  from 9am-12 noon, exploring the National Historic Site, learning about the First Nations culture and animals important to our history.  Tuesday through Friday the kids were able to eat their snacks in a new location such at the Hudson Bay Company York Boat, play in the fort and hear stories told in the tipi.   This camp was a great hit and we're happy to offer it twice for the summer of 2016.

What to Expect in 2016

Here at the Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site, the Confluence Heritage Society staff work hard to make the Junior Explorer camp fun, educational, and safe for campers. Each half day focuses on a different subject (First Nations, animals, fur trade, etc.), and is delivered in various manners (storytelling, crafts, games, presentations).

Junior Explorers is offered Tuesday through Friday, July 19-22, 2016.  Kids can register for the morning from 9am-12 noon OR afternoon 1pm-4pm sessions.
